WhatsApp first. SMS when it matters.

Hopwire picks the channel for you and explains the choice. WhatsApp goes first; SMS takes over when WhatsApp fails or does not deliver in time.

What you get

How it works

  1. Find eligible senders

Senders the tenant owns or has a grant for, in the same environment, not restricted, with an approved version of the template.

  2. Try WhatsApp

The WhatsApp version goes out and Hopwire waits for Meta's report.

  3. Fall back if needed

On a failure that allows fallback, or no delivery within the timeout, the SMS version goes out.

  4. Record it all

Both attempts stay visible in the audit trail, with the reason for the fallback.

Questions

How long does Hopwire wait before falling back?

By default 30 seconds for OTPs and 10 minutes for transactional messages. These are the platform defaults.

Does fallback cost more?

Each attempt may be charged by its provider. Under the planned pricing, fallback does not add a Hopwire unit.

Is every WhatsApp failure a reason to fall back?

No. Each outcome code says whether it allows fallback. Opt-outs and Meta's per-user marketing limit, for example, never fall back.
